TELL ME THURSDAY: Christmas is coming!

In the Philippines, we don’t celebrate the US thanksgiving holiday, for obvious reasons, so we skip right ahead to getting excited about Christmas!

Tell me:

1) What are you looking forward to the most this Christmas?
2) What’s on your Christmas wish list?

You go first! :)

TELL ME THURSDAY: Your Public Speaking Fears

As I mentioned yesterday, I’m working on a talk I’m doing next week and I could use your help!

Research has shown that most people would rather die than speak on stage. I can see how that’s possible!

Tell me: What are the challenges you face when speaking in public?

Tell Me Thursday: 10-20-2010

Did you notice the date today? Sorry I couldn’t resist! :)

IN OTHER NEWS…

I was wondering…

What do you do to get some exercise?

From elementary to college, volleyball was my sport of choice. But seeing that you need 11 other people to play with you, I stopped playing when I wasn’t in school anymore. I’ve tried a bunch of stuff, but I have yet to fall in love with another sport or fitness routine. I have to admit though, running is really convenient and practical, especially when you’re traveling.

So how about you? How do you get/stay fit?

Tell Me Thursday: Unleash your inner geek…

I’m currently organizing my computer, so I’m in the process of removing unnecessary applications and searching for some that would really be useful. Take note: I said “useful”…I’m trying to stay away from any more distractions!

So here’s my question for you today:

Aside from the usual MS Office/iWork/iLife/Adobe stuff, can you name some programs or applications that have helped you?

Here are my 3 picks (take note that I’m a Mac user):

1) Mindnode – mindmapping software that helps me organize my thoughts
2) Think – simple software that helps me focus on my work
3) Senuti
– it saved my sanity when I lost all my music on my hard drive

What are your recommendations?

Tell Me Thursday: My adorable nephew wants to know…

…a bunch of stuff! He couldn’t decide on ONE question to ask, so he asked three! Introducing my final guest blogger for the week, Tristan:

Your answers, please! :)

Tell Me Thursday: A question about your mission (A guest post by Linny Lareza)

Today’s Tell Me Thursday question comes from Linny Lareza. She is one of the wisest, most gentle, and most creative people who I know. She has a way of asking just the right question at the right time, so I knew she was the perfect person to ask today’s Tell Me Thursday question…in her own unique way, of course. :) Look at it, think about it, then share what comes to mind in the comments below!

Linny Lareza paints pictures with words and writes stories with pictures. She is an artist, a teacher, a writer, a listener, a speaker, and a friend.

Tell Me Thursday: What are your unique or unusual talents?

Once again, it’s time for Tell Me Thursday!

Are you a master at turning trash into art? Are you a walking sports almanac? I want to know! What are your unique or unusual talents?

Here are a couple of mine:

  • I’m a doodler. I can listen to a whole talk and doodle at the same time and not miss an important detail. For the record, I do know when to pause to write down an important point! I try not to doodle when I’m sitting in front of someone speaking, though. But sometimes it’s just too difficult to resist a blank space on a sheet of paper!
  • I spot errors really, really quickly. I’m almost ashamed at how fast I can notice what’s wrong, because even though it makes me a good editor, I’m always in danger of becoming overly critical. Whether they’re spelling errors or typos, or they’re errors in displays or designs, I spot them immediately. I’ve been learning how to pick my battles, be more gentle, and know when to bite my tongue and stay silent altogether. After all, I can be my own top critic too! Terrible!

How about you? What are your unique or unusual talents?

Tell Me Thursday: What have you been reading lately?

It’s Book Fair week here in Manila, so in keeping with the theme, the question for today is: What have you been reading lately?

I have a bad habit of reading several books at the same time. I’m crazy, I know. :) Here are titles that are on my priority list:

1) Linchpin by Seth Godin
2) Entrusting the Key by Ali Smith
3) Dreaming in Chinese: Mandarin Lessons in Life, Love, and Language by Deborah Fallows

Your turn! What are you reading?

In case you missed it, I’m giving out some special Book Fair offers and five gift certificates worth P500 from OMF Literature. You have until Saturday at noon to get a chance to snag one of the gift certificates! To find out more, check out this post.

Tell Me Thursday: School Talk!

For today’s Tell Me Thursday post, I decided to do something different: I asked friends from different backgrounds (music, TV, radio, sports, publishing, business, etc.) to share their answers to get the ball rolling!

Today’s Tell Me Thursday question is…

What is one topic or subject you wish they had taught when you were in school?

Andi Manzano: “Character building & responsibility :) I wish school taught me how to do things my own way and not just all purely memorization.”

Benjo Marquez: “The one class I wished they taught in school was skateboarding. Hehe! No, that is a tough one. In hindsight, I wish they had taught us how to handle money and understand the concept of making and spending money.”

Christian Bautista: “During grade school or high school, I wish they had guided us thoroughly to know our strengths and talents–where we are good at –to guide us better in choosing the right course to take in college, or to know our possible profession in the future.”

Kelly Williams: “I wish they taught Tagalog/Filipino for the obvious reason. It would have surely helped me tremendously the past the 5 years :)”

Myrza Sison: “Although I don’t think I’m deficient in it (I hope not!) I wish they taught EQ or Emotional Intelligence in school so that everyone could have learned how their emotions affect their actions and how they can manage their emotions effectively. Lots of problems in the workplace and society are caused by conflict brought about by people’s EQ deficiencies and could be avoided if everyone just knew themselves a little better.”

Owie Burns: “I wish they told us WHY they were teaching us WHAT they were teaching us. I guess some would say it’s a given that what they teach you in school WILL come in handy one day — but as kids (given so much info) you don’t really see what it’s all for, UNLESS someone actually says so. I honestly would have paid more attention in class – not because I had to, but because I knew it would be useful one day, someday.”

Paolo Valenciano: “Media / film class. if they think an art class or a music class is necessary , why not give the kids an option to choose between art, music and film… since media plays such a major part in our society.”

My answer? I wish they taught us more about time management and budgeting. Both are always expected, but I feel like the topics aren’t taught adequately enough. Oh, and I wish they taught us how to conduct lie detector tests without having to use a lie detector machine. Wouldn’t that be fun? :)

A gazillion thanks to Andi, Benjo, Christian, Kelly, Myrza, Owie, and Pao for ‘guesting’ on the blog and answering today’s Tell Me Thursday question!

Now it’s your turn. :) What is one topic or subject you wish they taught in school? Serious, quirky, or random answers are welcome!

Tell Me Thursday: Let’s talk about blogs!

Two Thursdays ago, I asked about books. This week, it’s all about blogs!

Through the years, blogs have inspired, educated, and entertained me. I love learning from experts, friends, and peers, and I’ve picked up ideas and thoughts that have been helpful and useful in different areas of my life.

Tell me: Who are the bloggers or what are the blogs that you follow? (And if you have a blog, share your blog’s address so we can check it out!)

You can see the list of blogs I follow on the lower right side of this site. But I want to discover (and share) new ones! Share your blog address or your blog recommendations by leaving a comment below, and I’ll choose some sites to highlight soon!
